Well, the outpour of support for my writer's block was unbelievable! I'm blamimg it on the weather and the fact that Jonathan was out of town last week -- I'm worse than Crabby Road's Maxine without my Jonathan.
When he got home, he reminded me of an EXCELLENT story that I have not conveyed to any of you. It was triggered by the Kirby Vacuum Cleaner salesman who came to our door Friday night. My great uncle Curtis Bradley (Neenie's older brother) was a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner salesman, but he also had a big honkin farm in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. His property was off a state route road and he had a gravel road as a driveway -- you had to pull onto the gravel road and stop to unhitch the gate to drive up to his home. He had a nice home -- a pond that was in the bend of the gravel road, and the cattle were always grazing nearby in the lush green pastures. He and his wife had a wonderful life there.
One day, he bought a brand new car. He and his wife turn off the state route onto the gravel road. He decides to let his wife drive on up the driveway and he would walk up from the gate. Uncle Curt gets out of the car to unlatch the gate and has his wife take the driver's seat. She accelerated and began her climb up the winding driveway towards the house. As Uncle Curt was latching the gate closed, he noticed that his wife was going a bit fast........a little too fast......Remember earlier what I said was in the bend of the road? Yes, "a pond in the bend of the gravel road".......His wife got all nervous driving that new car and drove Uncle Curt's brand new car in the pond! Can you see this 70+ year old woman screaming her head off as she takes a nosedive in a cattle pond? Now, can you envision Poor Uncle Curt running up the road to get her out of the car so that she wouldn't drown? Lesson for today. The brake is on the left and the gas is on the right and for heaven's sakes, don't forget to turn the dang wheel!
Well, needless to say, you now know where my storytelling ability comes from.......Neenie was the best storyteller. Neenie was my maternal grandmother and we had more laughs than some people had in a lifetime. I'll never forget Aunt Gail getting Neenie "tickled" at Jean's Restaurant in Mt. Vernon just as she was scarfing down a spoonful of green jello. Have you ever choked on green jello? Well, if it ever happens, keep in mind that it doesn't come out of your mouth.....it comes out of your nose...........
